Tips for a Road-trip

If you’re planning a road trip with your partner, you must be feeling pretty excited. You want everything to go well and your expectations are probably very high. It’s all understandable, since a road-trip is an opportunity for the two of you to spend a lot of time together, away from the boring daily routines, work and other aspects of your busy lives that prevent you from enjoying each other’s company.

Still, for some wonderful memories to be created on your road trip, there are quite a few things you should take care of before you set off. As you probably know, you can’t just pack your suitcases, lock the door and fill up the tank. It’s much more difficult than that. On the other hand, if you start preparing on time and have a checklist with all the things you need to take care of, you’ll stand every chance of having the time of your life with the person you love. To help you have a dream road trip, we’ve prepared the following tips:

Choosing the destination(s)

The success of your road trip largely depends on the destination(s) you’ve chosen. Hopefully, your beloved partner and you share the same interests when it comes to the places you’d like to visit. However, you might be in a position to make compromises. That’s something you need to be ready to do. So, don’t frown when your partner suggests a place you’re not so keen to visit. After all, it’s about doing the stuff that makes you both happy and you can definitely survive a few hours or even a whole day in a place that is not of much interest to you just to make your loved one happy. Finally, they should do the same when it comes to your wishes.

Plan the journey well

Every road trip involves a lot of time spent in a car, but if that time is too long for either your partner or you, your road trip won’t be great. There is little point in reaching a destination late at night and hitting the sack as soon as you get into your hotel room. Instead, plan shorter trips between destinations, so that you have enough time to wander around without feeling exhausted. That time will also be a much welcome break from driving.

Insurance

No-one plans to be ill or injured while on holiday, but only those smart enough have a backup solution in case they are travelling abroad. Neither of you should be without a comprehensive medical insurance during your trip. The same goes for your car. You need a comprehensive car insurance in case it breaks down or you get involved in an accident. Consider getting proper health and car insurance an investment that will help you feel much more relaxed.

Start packing early

Don’t leave packing for the night before the trip. Instead, make a list of the things you need to pack, taking into consideration the weather forecast for the places you’re planning to visit. Start packing well before the trip and try to fit all the bags in the car at least one day before the trip to make sure you have enough space for everything. If you see you’ve packed too much, get rid of the things you don’t really need or those you can buy on the road if such a need arises.

Entertainment

Since you’ll be spending many hours in your car, don’t forget to prepare a playlist or two, with your favorite songs. You want that time to be as enjoyable as possible and music can really make a lot of difference. Needless to say, you should also include your partner’s favorite tracks to keep your spirits up throughout the journey.

House Sitting

If you’re planning to be away for a long time, make sure you have someone come to stay in your house or at least visit it regularly to take care of the plants and pay the bills if necessary. When it comes to safety, don’t post your plans and details about your trip online, since you’d practically be inviting burglars to your home. Instead, let just one or two trustworthy friends know about your plans, so that they can reach you in case there is an emergency.

Copies of important documents

You should always have copies of important documents, such as your passport. Losing this important document while abroad or having it stolen can be a major problem that can seriously ruin your experience. However, with copies of your important documents you’d be able to sort everything out much faster and continue enjoying your road-trip.

As you can see, preparing well for the trip will help you make the most of it. That will, in turn, create memories that will last forever, which is the point of every holiday.
