There are thousands of companies that have a real commitment to the environment. However, only a fraction of them has some certification, declaration, or award, which validates their efforts before the consumer public.

Carbon offsetting is a procedure that is used to assuage the effect of greenhouse gases that occur from the use of fossil fuels by decreasing the release from some other source. Carbon offsets are investments in projects that reduce, eliminate, or prevent greenhouse gas emissions. Through this process, United passengers now have the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions resulting from their trip. It is done through taxable charitable contributions to a variety of projects that focus on forest conservation, renewable energy, and avoided deforestation.

The carbon footprint is one of the most popular ways of measuring the impact that any person or brand leaves throughout its life. But beware, the carbon footprint is not only an environmental issue, but it also affects competitiveness and even the sustainability of companies. We tell you what the benefits of having a carbon footprint at the airport are.

It is essential to keep in mind that offsets represent a "verified emission reduction" and do not expire. Therefore, the same Vintage/production criteria should not be applied to the compensations that could be used to REC or Guarantees of origin that have integrated production and consumption criteria. This means that a carbon credit, once withdrawn, becomes a permanent displacement of its emissions and can never be used again.

How Are Carbon Dioxide Emissions Calculated?

The calculations are based on the actual fuel consumption of the United Airlines fleet. The estimates are based on a full carbon footprint of our flight operations, specific to routes, aircraft used, load factors, assumed passenger weight, and actual fuel use. The carbon calculator only allocates the emissions associated with individual passenger trips and does not include other emissions generated by cargo transportation, crew travel, etc.

While emissions are challenging to measure accurately, some estimates suggest that they account for approximately 16% of the total CO2 emissions of the useful fuel cycle.

How Does The Program Work?

After calculating the carbon footprint of your trip with Carbon Click, you will have the option of donating one of the International Conservation carbon reduction projects. Protection International will spend its role in the chosen project, all through the buy of carbon offsets, which represent a definite amount of greenhouse gas drop.

The compensation of CO 2 emissions consists of the voluntary contribution of an economical amount, proportional to the tons of CO 2 generated here, for a project that pursues explicitly:

  • Capture several tones of CO 2 equivalent to that produced in our activity through the implementation of a carbon sink project for reforestation.
  • Please keep away from the release of many tons of carbon dioxide equal to that produce in our activity through a project of saving or energy effectiveness, replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy, waste treatment, or avoided deforestation.
