snorkeling in Cancun

Snorkelling at night can be very exciting. This snorkelling activity is really my favourite type of snorkelling. Night diving is the only other action you can overcome because you have more opportunities to dive deeper. Otherwise, you still get the same adrenaline when attacking at night.

Why would someone try to snorkel at night?

It may seem strange and scary. Anyone who has tried will say that there is another world to discover.

Night Snorkeling Mystery gives you a new look at your favourite snorkelling spot, which may have lost its charm during the day. At first, you will feel a little scared ... while snorkelling in Cancun, everyone does it; it is natural. Still, once you get used to it, you will automatically replace your fear with excitement, curiosity, and thirst for adventure.

At dusk, you find aquatic creatures that you rarely see and look different from during the day. At night, foxes grow with other wildlife.

Night animals such as lobster and shrimp are nocturnal creatures, and coral polyps open at night to give the reef a blurry and colourful appearance.

You will also find microscopic plankton with luminescence, which provides light flashes during interference. If you experience such a meeting, turn off the flashlight and shake your hands in the water. This will give you an unforgettable experience when you see "sparks" igniting around you. It is a fantastic feeling.

Before entering the water, what equipment do I need?

Safe snorkelling is necessary, especially if you are diving at night. The difference with snorkelling during the day is that snorkelling at night requires additional equipment and more planning and preparation. Therefore, make sure you prepare well before diving at night.

The most basic unit is an underwater flashlight. The flashlight highlights the colours and shows you the way with the night snorkel and makes your position known to your snorkelling partner.

If you dive at night, I recommend using chemical lamps and a flashlight. You can think of them as light bars that use a chemical reaction. These lamps act as guidance lights to mark your own place and that of your friend. It is advisable to place these lamps on the flagpole of your buoy. These lamps are also helpful in finding my starting point. A snorkelling trip is to put them strategically at the entry points so you know where to leave the water. For example, if you get into the water from land or by boat, place it strategically on the the ground or by boat to help you.

Equipment that can be useful while snorkelling at night is a whistle. Attach this to your snorkel vest, which acts as a signal device to attract your friend's attention in an emergency. Again, all your friends must have this device at hand.

You need to consider the security of the equipment. Protect yourself with a protective suit, boots, and gloves, as it cools due to the cool night air. Another advantage of wearing protective gear is that you can find things that can cause scratches and cuts at night. However, be careful not to damage fragile corals or other aquatic creatures.

Be sure to look at the beach and calculate your position while snorkelling. The relative ease of diving and the ability to literally drive for hours without lifting your head from the water can put you in situations that can be embarrassing (drifting in a group of wading birds) or quite dangerous as sailing offshore or losing the view!

After a week of snorkelling, you and your family will feel like experienced island sandpipers, with a pleasant vision of how little they have spent on their marine ecological adventure here in Cancun!
