Polokwane City midfielder Nazier Jacobs is in a serious condition in hospital following a bad car accident.
Jacobs was involved in a car crash last Friday in Polokwane’s city centre‚ and according to a source‚ he suffered serious injuries.
As a result‚ Jacobs’ first Premier Soccer League season could be over. Polokwane City spokesperson Tumelo Makgoara confirmed the accident to TMG Digital on Tuesday .
“It happened late on Friday and he is in a private hospital‚” he said.
“It involved another car‚ but we are not sure of the type of collision and whether it was head-on. And we are not sure of the type of injuries‚ because we haven’t been given the full details yet. Only the doctor and the family know‚” Makgoara stated.
He further confirmed that the player is in a serious condition. “He is in a critical state. It is dire‚” he added.
An insider said the player has suffered spinal injuries and as it stands‚ he may not play any part in Polokwane City’s remaining nine league games‚ as well as their Nedbank Cup clash against African All Stars on Sunday at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
“Nazier suffered spinal injuries. His [VW] Polo was not even a week old and it was his first car… This is bad. The problem is we don’t know at this stage if he would walk again. It looks like he may not play again this season and you know with spinal injuries‚ some people never walk again‚” said the source.
The 25-year-old was beginning to establish himself as a regular for Rise and Shine before the accident. He had made eight league starts in a row before the car crash.
The former Milano United midfielder is in his first season with Polokwane City. He joined Rise and Shine from the National First Division outfit on a three-year deal at the beginning of this season.
The player was not available for comment.
