Gauteng Department of Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has asked the matric class of 2015 to return around 16,000 tablets which were given to them as part of the province’s e-learning project.
According to a report by EWN, the department handed out 65,000 tablets to disadvantaged schools last year. 45,000 have been returned.
Of the returned tablets, 10,000 had broken screens or were not working.
“The remainder of tablets are still with matrics and we are asking them to bring them back so that the new learners can use them,” said Lesufi.
