AMAPIANO WRAPPED

Podcast and Chill with MacG, Ghost Lady and Sol Phenduka might have wrapped up this year's edition of their continually trending podcast series. However, MacG had asserted plans to incorporate more Amapiano content on his MacG Unleashed channel.

One of the latest additions on the channel was Amapaino Wrapped. This additional podcast kicked off with the first episode of MacG and a panel of Amapiano insiders speaking, counting down the best Amapaino talent of 2022.

However, this did not garner any attention. It could be because it focused on categorising the various sub-genres and expertise within the multiple countdowns. But similar to the reactions received when MTV's Hottest MCs list, the latest episode had much talking. Specifically, as it seemed to shade the King of Amapiano, Kabza de Small.

MacG's Amapiano Unwrapped dragged over Kabza's impact comment

The second Amapiano Wrapped countdown started with MacG contextualising that the countdown was the Top 10 of the Most Impactful Amapiano Acts all-round. Therefore, several producer-DJs and vocalists received unanimous votes that would make up the Top 10.

Major League DJz was one of the last ones added, as they were not included in the initial individual lists submitted. Initially, they were discussed as number 10. But when the panel gathered, they realised they needed to have the twins on their lists.

However, that soon changed when they considered just how much of a global impact the DJing twins have had this year alone. Whether through their highly successful Amapiano Balcony Mix, which has now become an internationally recognised live mix. Or the fact that the twins have worked and rubbed shoulders with the likes of WizKid, Tiwa Savage and many more.

The twins were eventually pitted against Kabza de Small for the number one spot. While for many, Kabza de Small being the most impactful Amapiano artist overall, is not questioned. For two years and counting, Kabza de Small has been the most streamed South African artist. Moreover, if it were not for SETE, he would also mark the second year as the artist with the most streamed songs.

But the manager to Abidoza and promoted, Dimpho Rapudi, seemed to land herself in hot water when she suggested that Major League DJz are more impactful than Kabza de Small because they can articulate themselves and the culture of Amapiano better than Kabza.

Safe to say that some supported Rapids. More so based on the fact that Kabza de Small has rarely done interviews throughout his career. Moreover, Kabza needs to do more talking in general. This a point common in Amapiano's leading producer-DJs, including DeMthuda, Kelvin Momo, Gaba Canal, and Busta 929. As such, tweeps shared some of the rare interviews Kabza has done in the past.
