Ntando Duma has indicated that her departure from The Queen was due to her casting on an upcoming Netflix original series, and not due to the criticism of her acting.
Ntando Duma took to Instagram on Monday, 13 July 2021, to confirm her exit from The Queen. The media personality and actress made her first appearance on the show in August 2020, when the Mzansi Magic telenovela was celebrating its one thousandth episode. Duma was introduced alongside Jessica Nkosi, as part of the Sebata clan. Duma played the youngest of the two sisters, Mpho, whose father is Hector Sebata, played by Rapulana Seiphemo.
Initially, her introduction was met with messages of congratulations and anticipation. This is as Duma, along with Nkosi, were believed to be part of the rejuvenation of the telenovela, following the great wash of talent and original cast members during the tail end of the fourth season. However, criticism over Duma’s allegedly underwhelming acting soon began to be the running motif whenever she led a storyline.
While neither Duma nor the production commented on the matter, Duma faced public scrutiny just days before her exit. Fans welcomed her exit from the show with more vehemence than there would have been, should she have not made headlines.
On Tuesday, 6 July 2021, the star shared a now viral video of her in a back-and-forth with a concerned civilian over her parking in a disabled allocated parking spot. Instead of handling the matter maturely by explaining that she was just waiting for an order, Duma opted to pull the race card and swear at the concerned citizen. The result was ridicule and continued reiterations of her supposedly poor acting skills.
However, when Duma announced her exit from The Queen, she focused on the positive experiences and teased her reason for her departure. She stated, “Now it’s time to spread my wings and fly higher. Look out for a new character on your Netflix screens, soon!”
