There are many prescriptions as well as over-the-counter medicines available for treating acne. However, most of them end up causing side effects such as dryness, redness, and discoloration. This is why people keep looking for natural solutions to treat acne.

Acne can be easily treated at home with ingredients that are readily available, provided they are mild and there are no nodules or cysts. Such treatments will not only clear your acne, they will also keep your skin moisturized, healthy, and glowing. Of course you can also try full spectrum infrared sauna. Nevertheless, here are a few simple solutions you can try at home:

#1. Grape Cleanser

Cutting a few grapes into half and then rubbing them over your face and neck is a good way to get rid of your acne.

#2. Cucumber Face Mask

Most spas use cucumber slices to reduce puffiness of the eyes. This is because cucumber can be very soothing on your skin and can reduce your pain, swelling, and irritation. It is good for acne too. Blend a small cucumber with a cup of oatmeal and make a paste. To one teaspoon of this paste, add one teaspoon of yoghurt. Apply it on your face evenly and rinse after 30 minutes.

#3. Cucumber Face Pack

Mash a cucumber with a tablespoon of sugar. Make sure you strain the water. Mix well and apply to your face. You can wash your face with cold water after about ten minutes.

#4. Simple Honey Mask

The healing properties of honey make it very effective for treating acne. Rinse face with warm water, and apply honey evenly. Rinse with warm water after about 30 minutes.

#5. Yeast and Yogurt Mask for Oily Skin

The probiotic properties of yoghurt can prove to be extremely beneficial while treating acne. Make a thin mixture of yoghurt and brewer’s yeast (1 tsp). Now apply to the oily areas of your face evenly. Wash your face with warm water after about 15 or 20 minutes. Immediately rinse your face with cold water. This will help in closing pores.

#6. Oatmeal Facial

Oatmeal can be surprisingly soothing on your skin because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Although not specifically efficient to treat acne, it can work wonders on dry, inflamed skin. Mix 2 tsp oatmeal into 1 tsp baking soda. Add water to make a paste. Apply this paste on your face evenly and rub it in gently. Rinse after 10 minutes.

#7. Turmeric Facial Mask

Turmeric has antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties that can be very beneficial for treating acne. It can be effective even in severe skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, alopecia, psoriasis, oral lichen planus, and acne.

Mix 2 tsp of turmeric powder and sandalwood powder to half a cup of chickpea floor. Add some ghee or almond oil to make a paste. You can add a little water. Apply this paste on your face and then rub it in gently using your fingers and palms to remove it. Wash your face with water once the paste is removed.

Most of the ingredients used in the above treatments should be available in your refrigerator or pantry. You can try any of these and find out how your skin is responding. If it doesn’t show results in about four weeks or so, it is always better to consult a good dermatologist.
