UIDAI

What is Aadhaar?

Aadhaar is a random 12-digit number given to the citizens of India by the UIDAI ("Authority") after the authentication process laid down by the Authority gets completed. Any person who is a resident in India regardless of age and gender may voluntarily register to get the number of Aadhaar. Persons willing to register must also provide minimal demographic information and biometric information, which is entirely free during the registration. An individual must only register with Aadhaar once, and only an Aadhaar is generated after de-duplication. The unique characteristics are obtained through the demographic and biometric de-duplication process.

Aadhaar number is verified online, cost-effective. It is unique and robust enough to eliminate duplicates and false identities. It can be included in the creation of numerous social support systems and services that encourage accountability and good governance. This is the only program of its type worldwide that provides state-of-the-art digital and online IDs free of charge to people on such a large scale and can change the way service delivery works in the country.

Aadhaar Features to Know

Singularity

The demographic and biometric deductibility processes do this. The de-duplication method compares the demographic and biometric details obtained by the resident during the registration phase to UIDAI documents to check whether or not the resident is already in the database. A person must register only once, and only one Aadhaar is generated after de-duplication. If the resident registers more than once, then the following registrations will be refused.

Portability

Aadhaar provides portability nationwide because it can be authenticated wherever online. This is critical as millions of Indians migrate between states, rural areas, and urban centers.

Random Number

Aadhaar number is an intellectually challenged random number. Individuals ready to register will include a minimum of demographic details and biometric information throughout the registration process. The Aadhar enrolment process does not record details like caste, religion, income, health, and geography.

The architecture of scalable technology

The architecture of the UID is scalable and open. Resident data will be centrally stored, and Authentication from anywhere in the country can be done online. Aadhaar Authentication handles a 100 million authentications service built per day.

Technologies of the open-source

Open-source architecture prevents dependence on specific hardware, storage, particular OS, specific database provider, or any specific scale vendor technology. These systems are designed with open source or open technology and configured to manage vendor-neutral scalability and to enable heterogeneous hardware within the same framework to coexist.
