If you enjoy the outdoors or have been in an emergency, you will have a good understanding of how challenging it can be to access clean drinking water. If you are, for example, backpacking across the country, you can only carry so many bottles of water. It will, therefore, require that you continuously buy water, or look for a way to filter any water you find. The LifeStraw water filter will take the burden out of the task.
We will provide a review of LifeStraw in a little more detail below. You can also find additional information at http://www.truthsurvival.com/lifestraw-review/.
What Is Lifestraw?
- A synopsis of LifeStraw
- It is very light
- it is portable
- It uses the hollow fiber water filtration system
- The filter pore size is about 0.2 microns
- It will remove up to 99.99% of bacteria and protozoa. such include e-coli, salmonella giardia and cryptosporidium
- It will not neutralize any viruses or remove microelements
LifeStraw is a compact portable water filter system. You hang it around your neck using the lanyard that comes as part of a package. It also has end caps that will help avoid contamination. The advantage is that if you need to leave the water source, you can bottle some of the untreated water and sip it through the straw.
The major disadvantage is that you cannot pre-filter the water so that you have ready to use water anytime you need it. For some people, this may limit its usefulness, but you cannot discount the advantage of being able to filter your water on the go.
The other thing you need to be aware of is that LifeStraw will not get rid of the microelements in the water. It means that some of the contaminants like the metals will still be in the water and you will in essence still be drinking untreated water.
How to Use It
LifeStraw is a straw, and you use it in the same way as you would any other straw. You insert it into the container or directly into the water source, and suck the water through the straw. Initially, you may have to suck a little bit hard to get the water moving, but it is not difficult. If you have not used the straw for some time, soak it for about 30 seconds before you start the sucking action. It will moisten the straw, thereby making it easy for the water to move up the tube.
When you finish, all you need to do is gently blow through the filter to remove any excess water. Now put back the caps to avoid any contamination.
