You probably already heard all over the internet about #NetflixEverywhere. The company made the announcement at International CES, currently taking place in Las Vegas. Netflix is now available in 130 additional countries (except China). I’ve been using it for a while now, blogged here, and I won’t be switching.
Anyway, if you want to sign up, here are the prices. It’s more expensive than ShowMax’s R99 a month offering. If you sign up, you will get a 1 month free trial. But in order to get your 1 month trial, you have to put payment details (credit card or Pay Pal).
The cheapest, basic plan is R129,99. It does not let you stream in HD and you can only watch it on one screen at a time, but it can be on either a laptop, TV, phone or tablet.
The second plan, the standard will cost R164,99. It’s streams in HD and lets you watch on 2 devices simultaneously.
Lastly, the premium plan is R199,99. It allows streaming on up to 4 devices, including HD and ultra HD streaming.
It has already been pointed out that House of Cards and Orange is the New Black is not on Netflix SA due to some content agreement with DStv, which makes sense. I’m not sure what else is not available but the catalogue does look impressive.
EDIT: I stream on 720p and it uses about 1GB an hour. My settings auto detect my internet speed and chooses quality accordingly.
If you’re thinking of signing up, I’d recommend getting an Apple TV!
