Following a report by Sunday World Idols SA judge Somizi has responded to claims of abuse made by his estranged husband, Rockville actor Mohale Motaung who said that Somizi threatened him with a knife. This may be why the pair were reportedly living separately.
“I took my keys and walked out, he took a knife. I was about to exit, so he said to me, ‘if you exit… I’m going to kill us both.’ So I took my keys and ran. He grabbed the knife and said ‘if you walk out, I’m going to stab you.’ Now I see a different person. I was sh*t scared and walked back into the house. He said ‘let’s talk.’ He cried and we moved on,” said Motaung according to Sunday World.
The report also states that Mohale was reportedly terrified of Somizi when they exchanged their vows in their lavish wedding which was televised. The actor also accused Somizi of breaking his ribs and almost knocking out his two teeth in a dispute in their Johannesburg home last year.

In his response, via a media statement through entertainment reporter Phil Mphela, Somizi acknowledged the abuse allegations made against him in the Sunday World article, stating that he is referring the matter to his legal team as they are best equipped to handle the situation.
“Mr Somizi Mhlongo has become aware of allegations alleged against him by his estranged husband, Mr. Mohale Motaung in the Sunday World newspaper on 1 August,” read the statement. “Given the severity of the allegations, Mr. Mhlongo has referred this matter to his legal team who are best equipped to handle the matter going forward,” the statement continued. “No further comment will be given until such a time deemed necessary by his legal representatives,” ended the statement.
