Idols SA has begun the countdown to the premiere of the seventeenth season of the singing competition, with Randall Abrahams, Unathi Nkayi and Somizi Mhlongo all returning.

Idols South Africa took to Twitter on Tuesday, 6 July 2021, to mark the five-day countdown to the return of the popular reality singing competition. The upcoming season marks the seventeenth edition of the show in the country. Moreover, already confirmed is the return of season 16 judges, Randall Abrahams, Unathi Nkayi and Somizi Mhlongo. Additionally, executive producer of the show, ProVerb is also set to return as the host of the show.

In an effort to promote the first episode set to air this week, the show shared an excerpt. The clip revealed that one of the hopefuls will be a film student who aims to document their experience on the show. The clip did not give any indication of whether the film student will succeed, however, it showcased that the rapport between friends and colleagues, Nkayi and Mhlongo, still remains.

Moreover, it confirmed that Prince Kaybee is set to be the first guest judge to join the Idols SA 17 judging panel. The addition of Prince Kaybee comes at an opportune time, following the leak, the producer-DJ has arguably received more favourable female attention on social media. Therefore, his feature is guaranteed to draw audiences.

The first episode of Idols SA 17 is set to air on Sunday, 11 July 2021, on Mzansi Magic, DStv channel 161, at 17:30.
