From 18 January to 26 January 2020 the globally Google Trends data shows rise corona beer virus,  beer virus and beer coronavirus jumped 2,300%. People seem to be confusing the Mexican beer Corona Extra is somehow linked to the deadly coronavirus outbreak in China that has killed more than 130 people.





Portugal and  South Africa are leading the search queries,  Search data from the US also records people frequently searching for the beer and the virus together. 




There is no connection between the beer and the virus. Corona beer comes from a Latin "Corōna" which means a crown, and also in Spanish, corona means a crown, and Corona beer originated in Mexico. Whereas in English, the "corona"  term is an anatomical term used for body parts relating to a crown.


This isn't the first dilemma involving disease and a brand. According to The New York Times, during the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, sales of the diet candy Ayds dropped approximately 50%.
