MASKANDI musician Mthandeni Manqele has allegedly threatened to klap another person.

After it emerged he had hit a journalist over the weekend, he reportedly wrote on his WhatsApp status that it was just the beginning.

Mthandeni klapped Mthobisi Sithole, who works for a regional newspaper, at the funeral of a maskandi fan in Nongoma, northern KZN, on Saturday.

The fan was gunned down at the Inqokotho Maskandi Festival and not at the Impucuzeko Maskandi Festival, as previously reported.

Mthandeni has previously admitted that he attacked the journalist. The incident happened in full view of thousands of people who had gathered to say goodbye to Mthokozisi Xulu.

After the incident, Mthandeni apparently wrote in Zulu on his WhatsApp status:
“I mentioned before that I will beat someone because they associate me with matters I’m not involved in. There’s still one more person. Nobody messes with me.”

It was unclear who Mthandeni’s WhatsApp status was threatening.

Mthobisi opened a case of assault against him at the Nongoma Police Station on Saturday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said the matter was under investigation.

The SunTeam tried to contact Mthandeni, but he didn’t answer his phone.

His manager, Vusi Leeuw, told Daily Sun that his WhatsApp account has been hacked. “Mthandeni didn’t write that status and he’s not violent. We think there’s someone who wants to ruin his reputation but we are working on it.

“We also want to apologise for the attack on the journalist. It was a mistake.”
