Convicted AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo is not only out of jail as he’s being treated in a private hospital for an ailment but is as well receiving his full R1.1m salary and pay packages for medical aid.
It was previously reported how the King pulled every available string to avoid serving the 12-year jail term for his crimes. The Justice Minister Michael Masutha, rejected the King’s last shot at evading justice and Dalindyebo eventually, started serving his jail term.
The king who was indicted in 2005 for crimes like arson, murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and fraud was initially sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2009 for culpable homicide, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, arson, and kidnapping.
He appealed to the Supreme Court and was granted bail pending the outcome of his appeal. The Supreme Court of Appeal however, discharged the culpable homicide conviction and reduced Dalindyebo sentence to 12 years. But less than a month into his 12-year jail term, king Dalindyebo’s serve has been suspended twice as he’s been admitted for treatment in a private hospital.
Zama Feni the Eastern Cape Correctional Services spokesperson revealed that king Dalindyebo took ill again and was admitted to a private facility for treatment because he has medical aid package. According to the spokesperson, Dalindyebo is entitled to the best treatment and could go to a private hospital as long as he has a medical aid.
Meanwhile the disagreement over who’s to take over the throne is prolonging the naming of a new king. Thus Dalindyebo remains the king and is still receiving his salary.
