DJ Sbu initiated the proposition that all fired and allegedly problematic veteran broadcasters should form their own independent broadcasting empire.

DJ Sbu took to Twitter on Tuesday, 3 August 2021, to reflect on the firing of veteran broadcaster, Robert Marawa. DJ Sbu was also reportedly fired by popular youth radio station, YFM, during his early days in the industry. DJ Sbu has an assumed close relationship with fellow broadcasters who have either suffered the same fate or have been “cancelled” by social media users.

Hence, his post featured an image of him with DJ Fresh, Gareth Cliff, T’bo Touch and Robert Marawa. The caption of the post was suggesting that they all band together and create a radio station where each of them would have their own time slots. Humorously, DJ Sbu suggested that the names of the shows should reflect the inception of the creation of the radio show.

The morning show would be named Fresh 1st Morning, Gareth Cliff’s show would be named Disciplinary Cliff, Mo-Fired would be the name of the afternoon show, while Tbo Touch would host the drive-time show called Touch of Suspension. Lastly, Robert Marawa and Phat Joe would round off the current schedule with Sports Appeal and The Dismissal, respectively.

Moreover, DJ Sbu went on to add that his followers can suggest female broadcasters to be part of the line-up to showcase the diversity of offerings on the suggested radio station. One of the names which was regularly highlighted was that of Bonang Matheba. Matheba might have not been fired from her hit show, The Front Row on Metro FM, however, it has since been suggested that the conditions of the radio shake-up had left the star with no choice but to quit.

Another name which was highlighted was of former Kaya FM personality, Kuli Roberts. However, the controversial personality declined the offer by stating, “Oh those lads deserve an Anele or Queen B*. Those are grootmans. I just want to work and build an orphanage. I don’t want fame but to care for the neglected. I’m kinda over it. I don’t want to start an empire, just look after others as the satisfaction is unimaginable.”
