Her music has been on high rotation on radio and with DJs across the country. She's been making South Africans dance throughout the lockdown in 2020 and her sound has inspired fans as she's remained true to her Limpopo upbringing.

But when the South African Music Awards (SAMA) announced the nominees  for 2021, Makhadzi was not on the list, which left fans baffled. Her album Kokovha was a fan favourite last year. The singer took to her Twitter to share with her followers that she did submit her work to the Samas.

“I did submit the Samas nomination forms but, unfortunately, maybe I didn’t meet their requirements,” she wrote.

 Kelly wasn't the only artist left reeling after the list of nominees came to light. After news broke that singer Makhadzi was snubbed from all categories, fans were up in arms saying the star had been cheated. Responding to Samas' decision, Makhadzi said that she possibly didn't meet this year's requirements.
