The Informer have just received reports that the Public Order Police have arrived in Matatiele from Aliwal North to deal with the protest action that is expected to resume tomorrow (Monday the 18 of September).

On the other hand members of the Maluti Matatiele R56 road forum are gearing themselves for a protest complaining about the bad condition of roads. According to them a 10 member leadership had a meeting today and they have decided that the protest must go on.

President of the forum Nhlahla Dlamini said the protest will include the blocking of the roads entering Matatiele town as early as possible on Monday morning.

He said the protest resumes because the Eastern Cape government has failed to deliver on the promise that the condition of the roads will be attended to in two weeks time.

The Informer has tried to get the government side of story by phoning and sending an SMS to the premier; phoning the District director of public works but to no avail.

Our first publication of this story District Director of Roads and Public Works Ayanda Moleko said all the machines and personnel will be at Matatiele before the end of two weeks promised by the premier.

The forum is claiming that this has not happened and that is the reason of them going back to the strike. At the sometime The Informer can report that road T16 which is from Matatiele to Queensmercy was partially attended to.

Mr Stemere who is leading community affected by the road confirmed that the machines started some work in this road but could not finish due to is capacity.

"This is what we want to discuss with the department before we take any action",he concluded.
