IT SEEMS Uzalo’s world of crime and thuggery has found partners in the real world.
This comes after unknown thugs attempted to con aspiring actors looking forward to being part of the SABC1 drama’s season 4 out of cash!
An unknown number of victims were allegedly conned out of R300 each by people who created a page on Facebook called “SABC1 Uzalo S4 Auditions 2017 Cast”, allegedly telling hopeful actors to pay R300 to register for auditions.
Most of the people who posted on the page received an automated reply that read: “Thank you for your request, registration fee R300.00 to be able to be considered.”
It asked: “Should we forward you our banking details?”
Aspiring actor Nelson Ndlovu of Centurion said he thought the page was real.
“But I am studying media studies, and I did not pay because it doesn’t cost a cent to audition for TV dramas.”
Another victim, Lindani Khwela from KZN, said: “I was so looking forward to being part of Uzalo, but I did not have the R300. If I had it, I would have paid.”
Uzalo on Monday warned people to beware of the page.
@Uzalo_SABC1 tweeted: “Once again, people are attempting to steal from our fans! Please be aware that this FB page was not created by the producers or the SABC.”
Uzalo spokeswoman Koketso Phala said the fake page was spotted by their social media team.
She said they are still in season 3, starting in February.
She warned: “People should investigate the depth of such calls. Uzalo will never ask people to pay for auditions.”
