The news of the passing of one of South Africa’s most iconic musicians, Mandoza, was announced on Sunday afternoon, sending shock waves around the nation.
Born Mduduzi Tshabalala, Mandoza had suffered from a brain tumour after originally fighting the disease off last year.
His last appearance was during a performance at the Thank You SABC Concert, where fans, friends and family showed support and sent prayers for his speedy recovery.
To honour the legend that Mandoza is regarded as in this country, we’ve rounded up the top five songs he’s best known for.

Nkalakatha

Released in 2000, Nkalakatha became the song that would shoot Mandoza’s solo career into the stratosphere. It’s regarded as one of the most popular South African songs of all time and is largely credited for crossing race, language and cultural barriers, having being played at national cricket and rugby games for years after its release.
Not only was the song big here at home, but was also popular as far as Asia and Australia.
