AT ONLY seven years of age Thami Guambe knows exactly what she wants to do when she grows up.
She wants to become a cop and rid Mzansi of all its bad guys!
And now she has become an overnight social media sensation following an SAPS Facebook post showing her in a police uniform.
Thami is in grade 2 at Saint Thomas Combined School in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.
Her gogo, Pinky Guambe-Dlamini, told Daily Sun how it all began: “Thami has for the past year admired the men and women in blue.
“Last Friday the grade 2 class had a career day and every pupil had to come to school dressed in the clothing or uniform of their chosen career.”
So gogo Pinky bought Thami a blue shirt and altered her old winter uniform into a police skirt.
All that was missing was a police hat and a tie.
“I went to the police station and asked to borrow a tie and hat,” she said.
“The cops gave us much more: they also took her to school in a police car.”
Thami not only made a grand entrance, she also had to give a speech to the entire school on the sports field on why she had chosen to become a policewoman.
“I want to get rid of all the bad guys and I want to protect South Africans from violent criminals,” she said amid loud applause.
“I also want to stop the boys who bully girls.”
When Thami and her gogo went back to the police station to return the borrowed hat and tie, they arrived to find all the cops there waiting to meet the little girl.
Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said: “She professionally saluted the officers and left them in awe.
“She told them that she is going to be the next station commander of Witbank.
“This young woman speaks with confidence.
“She has inspired us all and reminded us what it means to be a dedicated police officer.”
