Robben Island is likely to have been another closely-fought contest between the ANC – the victor in the last elections — and the Democratic Alliance.

Results from the heritage site could be the first in if all its voters cast their ballots in time to allow the ferry to leave with the results for the mainland.

Robben Island is part of ward 54 in Cape Town which includes Bantry Bay‚ Clifton‚ Green Point and Sea Point. In the last election in 2011‚ it had 127 voters.

In the last local elections‚ the DA won the ward‚ which had 16‚921 voters in 2011‚ handsomely with a 91.3% share

The only polling station in the ward won by the ANC was Robben Island.

Out of the registered 127 voters at Robben Island‚ there were a total of 46 ward ballot votes‚ 24 for the ANC and 19 for the DA‚ while there were two votes for the Congress of the People and one of Abolition of Income Tax and Usury Party received a single vote.

On the party list ballot‚ the ANC obtained 25 votes while the DA obtained 20.The African Christian Democratic Party obtained two votes and the Congress of the People received a single vote.
