POPULAR Zimbabwe prophet Walter Magaya appeared in court on Saturday.
He appeared in the Harare Magistrates Court for allegedly raping a 25-year-old student who worships at his church.
The miracle making pastor is the founder of the widely followed Prophetic, Healing and Deliverance Ministries.
Magaya, who was arrested on Friday night, was released the following day on a $2 000 (about R27 006) bail.
The prophet spent the night at a Harare police station at Rhodesville when he appeared before magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe.
As part of his bail conditions, the prophet was ordered to surrender his passport at the police station, not to interfere with state witnesses, as well as to report three times a week to Harare Central Police Station.
Magaya, who looked calm during court proceedings, was represented by a powerful legal team comprising Everson Chatambudza and Oliver Marawa of Rubaya and Chatambudza legal practitioners. The state was represented by Gwinyiya Shumba.
The prophet was initially not asked to plead.
The student from Midlands State University accused Magaya of inviting her for a prayer at his posh house in Harare, where he allegedly raped her.
The matter is believed to have taken place on 15 June last year, but was only reported this year.
The court will sit again on 15 September to hear more evidence of the alleged rape. – CAJ NEWS
