One of Mzansi’s most-loved actors, Menzi Ngubane, got the shock of his life when his wife, Siki, threw him a 52nd surprise birthday party.
It’s hard to believe the sexy hunk is just over 50, and it was his first surprise birthday party.
His birthday last year was just a simple lunch, so this year’s surprise moved him to tears. “No one has ever done something like this for me… Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this,” he tells DRUM.
So what does it feel like to be 52?
“Man, I’m grateful, a lot has happened in my life and God has shown me that He loves me.”
He’s had several health scares over the years, having suffered kidney failure in 2011 and getting a kidney transplant in 2014.
But at 52, Menzi says he feels great.
The couple has been married for two years now and their still living in marital bliss.
Menzi says he has always been attracted to Siki because of her kindness and because she shares the same qualities as his mother.
“Unobuntu, it’s her kindness that appeals to me. You can be as pretty as Halle Berry, but without Ubuntu your prettiness is vain,” he says.
“Siki appreciates the fact that I don’t have my mom any more. I wish my mom was still around because she and Siki would have hit it off.”
Like every couple, they have their fair share of bad days but they are both quick to apologise and find ways to win each other over.
“I don’t do flowers,” Menzi says. “I know she’s a sucker for shoes and I know her style so I’ll shop around for a proper pair of heels.”
Siki says he’s also surprised her with lingerie.
To cheer up her man, she opts for cooking for him.
“You know what they say about the way to a man’s heart . . .” she tells us.
The couple shares more about their romance and Menzi talks about his new role in Isibaya in this week’s issue of DRUM on sale on Friday.
