SABC 2 soap opera Muvhango is ranked high in the list on most-watched television shows in Mzansi, but since it’s first episode in April 1997, things have not always been smooth sailing for the show.
A few years ago, the cast of Muvhango was involved in a fatal accident while traveling between Venda and Johannesburg where some of the shoots are conducted. The accident left one of their staff members badly hurt while the other got away with minor scratches and bruises.
In 2015, Constance ‘Hangwani’ Sibiya was also badly hurt in a car accident that kept her away from work for weeks. This happened soon after she had tied the knot in real life.
That year, lead actress Sindi Dlathu who plays Thandaza was hospitalized for exhaustion when she allegedly collapsed on-set from a really an emotionally draining scene she played.
In June of 2015, several crew and cast members namely, Innocent ‘Rendani’ Makapila, David ‘Gizara’ Sebe and Constance ‘Hangwani’ Sibiya were rushed to the hospital after complaining of diarrhea, abdominal pains and dehydration which turned out to be food poisoning.
In the same year, actor Sammy Moeti who used to play Vho-Mushasha passed on from an illness.
In 2016 Muvhango has had a number of bad occurrences which have left the staff shaken. Actor Senzo Radebe survived a horrific accident after being ploughed by a taxi at Noord taxi rank in Johannesburg on his way to work. In a report by Daily Sun, Senzo’s family was shocked at the fact that actors were not provided with transport.
At the moment Senzo is said to be struggling to walk and has been receiving visits from individuals and nothing from the company, a close source said.
On the same day of Senzo’s accident, actress Phindile Gwala who is said to usually give Senzo a lift traveled to work alone that morning and she too was involved in a minor accident that left her in shock.
It was reported recently by Sunday World that actor Mcdonald Ndou, best known as KK was the victim of an armed hijacking. The three men who highjacked Ndou made off with his bankcard, cellphone and his Audi vehicle. The police are said to still be investigating the case.


While all things seem gloomy at Muvhango, the show still remains at the top of the leader board.
