Recently, popular local radio DJ Phat Joe announced his resignation from MetroFM and immediate move to East Coast Radio.

His resignation is the last in a long line of changes at the radio station, including the enforcement of a 90% music quota by Chief Operations Officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Motsoeneng has been the subject of lots of controversy at the SABC, from his hi-jacking of press conferences to handing out of cash to certain local musicians.

Here’s a list of all the radio celebs that have left the national broadcaster, including Pearl Thusi and Tbo Touch.
1. Tbo Touch

This charismatic radio personality announced that he was leaving the radio station and sent shockwaves through the industry because his timeslot, on the station, was one of the most popular.
The radio DJ was a very public supporter of SABC Chief Operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng. Touch has now teamed up with fellow controversial star Gareth Cliff.
2. Phat Joe:
Majota Mandlakayise Isaac Khambule, otherwise known as Phat Joe, has been in the South African entertainment industry for decades. The multi-talented presenter brought a big audience with him to his slot on MetroFM, so it was a shock when he announced that he was leaving to join East Coast Radio.
3. Refiloe Mpakanyane

Mpakanyane was Tbo Touch’s co-host but didn’t announce her departure from MetroFM when her male counterpart did, but soon afterwards. Her departure left the door open for replacements Mo Flava and Lerato Kganyago.
4. Pearl Thusi

Thusi has not officially left the radio station but was Phat Joe’s co-host at one point and has not been on air for a prolonged period of time while she films Quantico in America. The star has also reportedly tweeted about leaving the station. During her stint with Phat Joe, the two were suspended and reinstated
