The ANC and DA are both projected to achieve less than 50% of the votes in Tshwane, while the EFF looks set to be the kingmaker for the metro, News24 elections analyst Dawie Scholtz said on Thursday.
"Based on current trends, both the ANC and the DA are likely to end up with 40% to 45% of the vote," he said.
Just after 09:30, the IEC's results for the metro stood at 46.52% for the DA and 40.1% for the ANC. The EFF has 9.29% of the vote.
The EFF was looking to get 10% in the metro. This meant the EFF would have the power to decide which party to go into a coalition with.
Voter turnout in suburban areas was projected to be very high at 73%. This was expected to benefit the DA. The voter turnout in Tshwane's townships currently stood at about 55%.
In the 2011 local government elections, the ANC won 89% of the Tshwane township vote. The percentage was currently 75% for this election.
