POPULAR SABC soapie Muvhango has been hit by rumours of a strike!
Sunday Sun has learnt senior actors, including Sindy Dlathu, who plays Thandaza Mukwevho, Dingaan Mokebe ka Khumalo, who plays James Motsamai, Cynthia Shange, who plays MaNkosi, and Senzokuhle Radebe, who plays Sthembiso Gumede, are allegedly unhappy.
A cast member claimed the actors have been on strike for the past three months.
“They haven’t been shooting. At first, we thought it was normal procedure where some get time off and others shoot.
“They’ve been off for a long time now. We do take time off, but normally it’s weeks – not months,” the cast member said.
Dingaan said he is unaware of a strike: “As far as I know, I’m still part of Muvango. I’m happy. I’m not shooting because I’m on leave.”
But another cast member confirmed they’ve been off for three months.
“I know there’s been some unhappiness and I know senior actors met with Hlaudi to discuss the matter,” he said.
A third member of the cast said it wasn’t a strike but an action to express their unhappiness. The source confirmed meeting with SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
“People were unhappy and ended up meeting with Hlaudi.
“We’re not on strike, but Hlaudi has an open door policy that if we’re unhappy, we must go to him.
“We do meet with him every day to discuss issues as SABC employees. I’m not shooting at the moment because they’re busy shooting Tshivenda scenes,” the member said.
Muvhango publicist, Amanda Ngudle, who also represents Word of Mouth, the company that employs the actors, refused to comment.
SABC spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, said: “I’m not aware of any allegations or a meeting between Hlaudi and the actors.
“He was with me the whole week. Many people meet with Hlaudi on different occasions.
“We wouldn’t know unless we’re told.
“Remember, actors are employed by Word of Mouth, so they’re the ones who must answer,” he said.
Sindi, Cynthia and Senzo could not be
