mali shop owners on Tuesday appealed to the government to help get their friends and relatives out of Atteridgeville as protests rage in the area.

"Our brothers are trapped inside. Our shops have been looted and everything taken," one shop owner told reporters.
"It is really bad. We are appealing to the government to assist us to save their lives. We don't care about the properties."
The three businessmen drove away from the area without entering the township. They said they did not feel safe.
"There is no police presence in the area. It's really bad."
