Motswako rapper Fifi Cooper says she is scratching her head trying to figure out why Cassper Nyovest dislikes her so much. Fifi says Cassper giving her the cold shoulder at the recent Metro Fm Awards finalists announcements is more proof that the Doc Shebeleza rapper has issues with her.
Onlookers at the Metro FM event were left embarrassed when Cassper gave a blank stare as Fifi, whose real name is Refilwe Mooketsi, greeted him warmly. He later walked away as if nothing had happened between him and his fellow Mahikeng rapper, Fifi.
According to insiders in the entertainment industry, it’s not surprising that Cassper dismissed Fifi. He is alleged to ‘have a very big ego and has problems with most of Motswako artists.’ A source said, ‘We were not surprised when he did what he did to Fifi. Cassper has an exaggerated sense of self importance.’ The insider further said Cassper considers certain rappers beneath him.
‘He is also overly obsessed with himself. He is not on talking terms with a number of rappers because he believes they are beneath him. The sad part is that he pretends to be a sweet person who respects others and their talents when he is on a public forum.’
Fifi later said that even though she has no idea why Cassper behaved the way he did towards her, she suspects that her working relationship with AKA may have caused the problem. ‘This is not the first time he did that I have gotten used to him ignoring me,’ says Fifi. ‘I think the main problem is that I was featured in AKA’s Baddest remix, but I really don’t know what I did wrong and why he is treating me like this. It is painful because we come from the same area,’ Fifi laments.
She adds, ‘I’m not here to compete with him or to steal his spotlight. I’m just a young woman trying to make it in this industry.’ She also says that the incident as the Metro FM event was not the first time Cassper snubbed her. ‘I’m used to his diva antics and I have accepted that he does not like me. It pains me but I have to be mature and move on.’
The rapper’s will soon battle it out in the best hip hop category at the Metro FM Awards as both Fifi’s 20Fifi and Cassper’s Refiloe are nominated. Other contenders in the category are Riky Rick’s Family Values, Emtee’s debut album Avery and Zakwe’s Impande. Efforts to get Cassper’s comments were unsuccessful at the time of publish
