Message from the Minister of Education

Congratulations to the Matric Class of 2015 for their participation in the NSC Final Examinations.

I thank the learners and Indeed their parents and guardians for their support in ensuring that they [learners] stay in the schooling system right through to Grade 12. I also thank the educators and all department officials for their work in preparing the learners to write one of the toughest set final examinations.

The year, 2015 had the highest number of matriculants writing in the history of this country. This is testimony that our National Strategy For Learner Attainment is yielding positive results, and is also an acknowledgment that there is an increased value in education.

Year after year, the Department endeavors to raise the standard of education, and the results of the final exam, among other indicators will bear testament to that. Over the years, the nation has called for quality education and we undertook to gradually introduce those quality elements that will, in the long run, raise the standard of education and benefit us all as a country.

It is this worth while to remind South Africans that in looking at the final results, it is imperative that we have the bigger picture in mind as opposed to looking at the pass rate percentages and margins.

I wish the matriculants of 2015, all the best in their final results, which will be announced on the 5th of January, 2016.

For learners who did not do as well as they had hoped, please do not give up. The Department has developed a support programme that will assist and give you a second chance at writing and attaining your desired marks. The Second Chance Matric Support Programme will be launched on the 6 of January 2016
