NiceHash has been hacked and its Bitcoin wallet emptied.
The service stated that a security breach involving the NiceHash website took place, which resulted in its payment system being compromised and its Bitcoin wallet being emptied.
CoinDesk reported that the NiceHash wallet contained 4,736 BTC – about $60 million.
“We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours,” said NiceHash.
“We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity.”
NiceHash allows crypto mining rig owners to sell their hashing power on a marketplace, which sees them earn Bitcoin at regular intervals.
As miners’ Bitcoin payments are made regularly, only the current amounts owed by NiceHash to miners may be affected by the hack.
