Cape taxi strike called off, Golden Arrow to operate limited service : #TaxiStrike

The violent taxi strike in Cape Town has been suspended.

This comes after a meeting between the provincial Transport MEC Donald Grant and representatives from the taxi industry.

The demonstration turned violent earlier, with a MyCiTi and Golden Arrow bus torched.

Several other buses and vehicles were targeted and tyres were also set alight on Oliver Tambo Road and Jakes Gerwel Drive.

Taxi bosses in the Western Cape had halted services over Santaco leadership concerns and the impounding of their vehicles.

It's understood that taxi operators across the city will resume services after 2pm on Monday, reports EWN's Kevin Brandt.

Meanwhile, Golden Arrow has confirmed that at least 150 bus windows were stoned, one bus torched and several passenger and drivers left injured.

The bus service says it will operate a limit service with significant delays.
