Tsekeleke suffered from diabetes which had led to peripheral artery disease (PAD)‚ which restricts blood flow to the feet and legs. In 2016 he turned to controversial Pastor Mboro (Paseka Motsoeneng) from the Incredible Happenings Church for divine intervention. “After watching people on television saying they were healed by him, I decided to come to him for help. He is my last hope,” Tsekeleke told the Sunday Times then.

Max ‘Chief’ Mjamba‚ a close friend and mentor to Tsekeleke‚ told TimesLIVE that the bedridden star “was crying and screaming like a baby” and the “pain was too much”.

“When he spoke of death I tried to discourage him. You don’t want to talk about things like that. He said he must go. It was too much… the pain‚ he said‚ was too much‚” Max ‘Chief’ Mjamba was quoted TimesLIVE.

Meanwhile Nathi Mthethwa, Minister of Arts and Culture Minister, shared his condolences on social media, writing: “We send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of a sensational avant-garde of Kwaito, Tsekeleke, who has sadly passed on.”
