16 Mzansi Celebs who have been caught drinking & driving or Speeding



Celebrities are known for having a lot of fun, sometimes that fun has gotten them in trouble.

In a world filled with parties and private events that serve alcohol to the elite, some celebrities have been caught driving after having one too many drinks.

1. Thato Molamu

The actor was arrested last Friday in Pretoria for allegedly driving under the influence in his Jaguar. The actors case is still ongoing.

2. Phindile Gwala

The actress was allegedly caught drinking & driving in 2014, the charges have since been withdrawn.

3. DJ Sbu

According to media reports, the businessman was arrested for driving under the influence in 2015 Back in December 2007, the radio personality, whose real name is Sbusiso Leope, was arrested after driving a sponsored Audi TT at 257km/h..

4. DJ Tira

The popular DJ, real name Mthokozisi Khathi, was arrested in May 2011 for driving at 170km/h on the N1 North Highway in the Midrand area.

5. Itumeleng Khune

The Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper faced charges of reckless and negligent driving after being caught driving at 173km/h in a 120km/h zone in January.

6. Katlego Mphela

Soccer player Katlego Mphela was arrested for drinking & driving in 2011 while he was still a Bafana Bafana player.

7. Gareth Cliff -Speeding

Cliff was arrested in 2012 after apparently driving at 182km/h in a 120km/h zone in Lyttleton, Pretoria, returning from filming part of the Idols reality show in Durban.

8. Donald -Speeding

Award-winning singer Donald Moatshe was arrested after he was caught speeding on the N2 in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal, traffic police said on Sunday.
"He was driving a silver Audi Q3 and was caught driving at 182km/h on a 120km/h zone," said road traffic inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu.

9. Black Coffee -Speeding

DJ Black Coffee was arrested on Christmas Eve for speeding in his blue Maserati.
The DJ made headlines this weekend after he was arrested for driving at 200km/h on the N1 Highway near the Maraisburg bridge in Florida, west of Joburg, a 120km/h zone.
He was arrested and then released on bail of R800, reported

10. Julius Malema - Speeding 

Malema had been caught speeding before, in the Vaal area, back in 2013. Traffic officers captured three separate readings of him travelling at between 190 km/h and 215km/h in a 120km/h zone.

11. DJ Fresh - Speeding 

Another 5FM favourite, DJ Fresh, real name Thato Sikwane, was caught in 2009 driving a Volkswagen Touareg at 161km/h on the N1 south in Johannesburg, a 120km/h zone.

12. Steve Hofmeyr

Hofmeyr was arrested on the N4 eastbound for allegedly speeding in the Bronkhorstspruit area while rushing to a concert at the Badplaas resort.
Police officers on the scene claimed Hofmeyr reached speeds of almost 170km/h in an 80km/h zone in his black Chrysler.

13. Dan Kgothule

The Free State MEC for sport, arts, culture and recreation was caught driving 235km/h on December 30 2010 on the N1 highway outside Bloemfontein, breaking provincial records.

14. Lolly Jackson

The now deceased strip-club franchise owner was fined R20 000 for driving at 249km/h in his Lamborghini in July 2005.

15. Kerishnie Naicker

The former Miss SA was caught driving at 190km/h on a KwaZulu-Natal highway in her official car, with an expired licence to boot, in 1999.

16. Zwelinzima Vavi

Vavi was allegedly speeding on October 4, 2015, on the R24 in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni.
Evidence from one of the traffic officers who apprehended Vavi was that his silver-grey Audi Q7 was travelling at 178km/h in a 120km/h zone.
The officer alleged that his speed increased to 182km/h as Vavi changed lane
