7 Mzansi celebrities who don’t have a university degree

There used to be a time when not having a university degree meant that the possibility of you succeeding in life was pretty slim, but these days that’s far from the case

Now, we’re not for one second advising anybody to drop out of school: education is a privilege and those who are lucky enough to have the opportunity to pursue it should make the most of it.

However, sometimes you just don’t get the opportunity to finish your course (and sometimes you don’t even enrol at university) and you just have to make the most of the opportunities that life hands you instead.

Thankfully, there are several South African celebrities that you can look to for inspiration.

Here are a few stars that made it big despite not having a varsity qualification

Bonang Matheba
Queen B's career took a different turn after she started making waves in the television industry. She didn't finish her marketing degree, but she made sure that she wouldn't regret her decision

Minnie Dlamini

Minnie Dlamini left her degree at UCT to move to Jo'burg and pursue a career in television and it looks like her choice paid off.

Cassper Nyovest

“I’m leaving school to become a rapper…” this decision doesn’t work out for many people, but Cassper is a notable exception

AKA

The Super Mega was slammed by Dali Mpofu recently for not having achieved much academically… but we don’t think AKA minds too much right now.

Charlize Theron
Although Charlize enrolled at the National School of the Arts, she dropped out and eventually made the big move to Hollywood

Andile Jobe

The soapie actor's story is a sad one. He didn't finish school after his father passed away because his mother couldn't afford to pay his fees.

Candice Pillay

Candice Pillay knew what she wanted to do as soon as she turned 19 and she wasted no time in moving to the States to pursue a career in music.
