WHEN Naima Kay posted a photo on her Facebook page of herself wearing a red Mabala Noise jacket, fans wanted to know if she had joined the record label.
Even the songbird’s friend didn’t waste time trying to find out whether the Lelilangahitmaker was now with the label, owned by ANC Youth League treasurer Reggie Nkabinde.
However, Facebook user Lucky Mpondo soon responded, saying: “Naima Kay is still with Touch Africa. She’s releasing a single next Saturday.”
Naima Kay, whose real name is Lungile Khumalo, said she had seen the comments on her post.
She said she didn’t see herself joining the record label any time soon, but she would love to collaborate with more of their artists.
“The jacket was a gift from a friend who works for the label.
“I’m still with Touch Africa and I have recorded my third album, which will be on the shelves by the end of this month. I released a single called Uthando last week.”
She said her contract with Touch Africa allowed her to release as many albums as she wanted to.
Mabala Noise spokesman Sikhulile Nzuza, known as Squiks, said Naima had not been signed by the label.
“The Mabala artists are good friends with her. But as far I know, Naima Kay is still with Touch Africa,” he said.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that maskandi artist Thokozani Langa has signed with Mabala Noise.
