President Robert Mugabe’s introduction of strict import controls led to a blockade and protests at the Beitbridge border post on Friday and travellers are still being advised to exercise caution if planning a visit to the area for work or leisure.

The Automobile Association of South Africa has looked into the list of items that are prohibited‚ highlighting consumer goods that may affect travellers:
  1. Coffee creamers
  2. Baked beans
  3. Potato crisps
  4. Peanut butter
  5. Flavoured milks
  6. Canned fruits and vegetables
  7. Wheelbarrows
  8. Doors
  9. and Windows.
“It is our understanding that any items on the restricted list‚ even in small quantities‚ will not be allowed through the border post. For this reason we urge all travellers to check the list thoroughly before they leave to ensure they do not carry any of these items with them‚” said the AA.
