During an emotionally charged memorial service in honour of late racing car driver Gugu Zulu‚ at Kyalami Race Track on Tuesday‚ his family quashed swirling backlash against the Trek4Mandela organisation.

Zulu died last Monday while on a Trek4Mandela expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for sanitary pads for impoverished school girls.

Shortly after news of Zulu’s death emerged‚ questions surrounding the circumstances inundated social media.

Fans widely questioned and levelled blame against the Trek4Mandela on social media.

Setting the record straight on the speculation‚ Zulu’s family said that they do not blame anyone for his death.

“There’s an issue that we need to address as a family and this is the only time we will be addressing this‚” said Zulu’s uncle Tsidiso Motloelwa.

Motloelwa explained that they decided to address the issue after meeting with expedition leader Sibusiso Vilane and other members from Trek4Mandela.

“There were accusations and insinuations that have flown around since Gugu’s death. As the family we are not accusing anyone. The doctors are not God and Sibusiso is not God‚” he said.

Motloelwa added that Zulu’s family has accepted that his death is God’s will.

“The family has accepted that it’s God will‚ so can we please stop accusing each other.”
