With the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union fast approaching on Thursday 23 June 2016
How to register to vote

British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens aged 18 or over who are resident in the UK or Gibraltar will be eligible to vote but the deadline for registering for the EU referendum has now closed.

UK citizens resident overseas will also be eligible to vote, provided they have been registered to vote at a UK address in the last 15 years.

Unlike general elections, Gibraltar’s 23,000 electorate will be allowed cast their ballot after Parliament changed the rules.

Conversely Scottish 16- and 17-year-olds who were granted a vote in regional elections last year won't be permitted to cast a ballot in the EU referendum.

The deadline to register for those wanting to vote in the referendum passed on June 7.

You can still register after this date but you will not be able to vote in this election.
