A police officer who was part of the security detail for Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has died in Sudan, the Presidency said on Sunday.
"Warrant Officer [Muzwandile Joel] Sithole passed away after a sudden illness in the South Sudan capital, Juba, where he was part of a team preparing for a working visit of… Ramaphosa," said the Presidency in a statement.
Ramaphosa extended his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Sithole, following his death on Friday.
"Warrant Officer Sithole served the South African Police Service with distinction in a very important and valued role."
The SA government is now working with its South Sudanese counterpart in order to arrange the repatriation of Sithole's body this week.
Ramaphosa serves as a special envoy of President Jacob Zuma to South Sudan.
