An Orlando Pirates player was reportedly arrested for speeding and driving without a valid car registration in Johannesburg on Friday.
“The Johannesburg Metro police, yesterday, 25th March 2016, arrested a prominent soccer star in Johannesburg for speeding and driving a car without a car registration. The star has been detained at one of the local police station,” said Transport department spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi.
He was reportedly taken to the Langlaagte Police Station to be charged.
The player is a product of the Orlando Pirates youth development programme who joined the club in his teens.
Mnisi added that the player's arrest comes as the Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters “issued a directive to all traffic law enforcement officers to be on high alert, show no mercy and adopt a zero tolerance to traffic law infringers.”
