Julius Mbiti Kitheka(above) left his home 30 years ago to look for employment, but his family thought he had died and ended up burying the dismembered body of his namesake.
The family discovered a dismembered body of a security guard by the name Mbiti Kitheka in 2011, which they buried, thinking it was their son.
According to Standard, Kitheka returned home in 2014, but his family members disowned him thinking he was a ghost.
“Nimeenda miaka thelathini nikakuja nikapata watu wangu wa le nimejua wote wa nyumba yangu wamefariki. Sasa kukuja nyumbani nikakuta hata mimi nimefariki na nikafunikwa. (I was away for 30 years and when I returned, I found all the family members I knew had died. I also found that I had “died” and was buried),” he narrated in a clip by Citizen TV.
However, his family said they could not allow him back until cleansing rites were conducted.
“If he stays here when that body is still buried here, he might also die,” said his brother, Kanui Kitheka.
Two years after his return, his family is still yet to exhume the body to allow for the cleansing ceremony to commence.
