A black sedan bearing a gold government seal saying “Presidential Protection Service” allegedly drove through a red robot and crashed into the car being driven by two British tourists in Cape Town on Friday.
One of the tourists, who did not want to give her name, said they had been driving over the Blaauwberg Road and the R27 intersection on the West Coast when they were hit.
She believed the traffic light had been green for them. Still in shock, the woman told News24 they were not injured and declined to speak further.
The right front-side of their rental car and a door were damaged in the crash.
Four people were standing around the black sedan, one in brown camouflage, and another wearing a white cap with the words “Presidential Golf Day” embroidered in black. A white car was parked behind their vehicle.
They did not want to speak to News24 and it could not be determined if any officials were being driven in the car.
Presidential spokesperson Bongani Majola told News24 the SA Police Service was in charge of transporting the president and his deputy and referred all questions to them.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo could not immediately comment on the matter.
A Table View policeman on the scene, who did not want to be identified, told News24 the crash was being investigated.
