KWAITO legend Mandla Spikiri” Mofokeng’s marriage was nearly brought to an abrupt end by a Mad scammer.
This happened while he was on holiday at the Kruger National Park with his family.
Spikiri’s female colleagues and friends started receiving requests for nu_de pictures from his cellphone.
Even his own sister received the lewd requests.
The kwaito muso believes a scammer had done an illegal SIM swap without his knowledge or permission.
He even suspects it is someone close to him.
He sent her [sister] a message on WhatsApp, saying please send me photos of your p#$$y’,” said Spikiri.
Sunday World learnt the scamster had also asked for money and airtime from Spikiri’s fans and some of his celebrity friends.
I was shocked when my friends, whom I do business with, called to tell me they had just made the deposit I requested. It’s really disturbing.”
Spikiri said the scammer had aimed to portray him as a faded, broke artist, who was turning to his fans for survival.
According to the muso, he received an alert from Vodacom when the scammer attempted to do a SIM swap.
Spikiri said he only realised that his number had been hijacked after his wife tried to contact him. This was so he could fetch his child when she was running late.
She then told me my phone was answered by some guy who speaks Swati.”
The man who co-founded the kwaito group Trompies said he found it troubling that the scammer requested a nu_de picture from every female in his contacts.
How are those people going to look at me tomorrow?” he asked. Because I doubt all of them will believe I was hacked.
It’s really troubling and I want everybody to know that it wasn’t me.”
But his wife Rushka seems to have been hit hardest by the scammer’s stunt.
She told Sunday World she was livid because this saga almost destroyed her marriage.
I was pissed off about it,” Rushka said. But I always knew my husband could never do something like that.”
She revealed there were people who wanted to mess up her husband’s planned album launch later this month.
Rushka said she accompanied her husband to the Midrand Police Station, where he made an affidavit.
Midrand police could neither confirm nor deny the couple had made an affidavit because they were not recorded on the register.
