THE afternoon at rural Nquthu Taxi Rank in northern KZN turned from rush hour to blush hour on Tuesday!
That’s because commuters, taximen and passersby all got more than an eyeful when a half-naked woman came along.
The woman in her 20s seemed to have forgotten to dress properly. She had on only her panties and white shirt.
Shocked bystanders cheered and kids whistled, but it was only when she apparently began to realise people were staring and laughing at her that she jumped into a taxi and took out a skirt from one of her bags to put on.
Witness Bongani Zondi (29) said there were loud screams as people and kids teased her.
He said after she dressed herself in the taxi, she remained there looking shamefaced.
“But people didn’t give up. They kept taking photos and peered through the windows.”
He said people first thought she was mentally unstable, but later realised she was not.
“She looked fine. But it was the first time a thing like this has happened at our taxi rank. That’s why people got excited and took pictures,” said Bongani.
He said police were called to ease the situation at the taxi rank and they took the woman away.
Chairman for Nquthu Taxi Association Mthandeni Ndlovu confirmed the incident. He said taxi drivers were shocked to see a half-naked woman at their rank. “We know it is summer and people are allowed to wear anything that makes them feel cool. But in Nquthu, we are not familiar with half-naked people, because we’re a rural area. Seeing that woman shocked us.”
