THE Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating a rape case against a cop – but his wife wants to see him also pay for beating her and causing her to become depressed.
The 41-year-old woman from KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga told Daily Sun that although she tried to report her husband many times, she ended up behind bars after he told colleagues she had insulted him.
She said her 51-year-old husband abused her emotionally and physically and forced himself on her earlier this year.
“He chased me out of our home and I now live with a neighbour. I have been everywhere for help, from cops to social workers, but he seems to find out and intimidate these people,” she said.
She claimed he dragged her out of hospital while she was treated for depression and raped her as soon as they got home.
“Once my husband took me to the bush where he assaulted me, pointed a gun at me and threatened to kill me,” she said.
Brigadier Selvy Mohlala advised the woman to write to the provincial commissioner’s office for the matter to be forwarded to the SAPS inspectorate.
Ipid spokeswoman Grace Langa confirmed a rape case was laid against a warrant officer.
“The wife alleges she was raped in May but only reported the incident in September. It’s complex but after an investigation the docket will be sent to the director of public prosecutions,” she said.
