Stats SA released the results of its Census 2011 today (30 October 2012), According to the Census 2011 results, the proportion of households owning cellphones significantly increased from 31.9% in 2001 to 88.9% in 2011.

The shares of Telkom and the move to mobile set vindicate this stats, not a surprise the use of landlines decreased from 23.9% in 2001 to 14.5% in 2011.


 Further revealed that the percentage of households with a computer increased from 8.5% in 2001 to 21.4% in 2011.and  a television increased from 52.6% in 2001 to 74.5% over the last decade, but the percentage of households with a radio declined from 72.1% to 67.5%.
